SITUATION OF TOURISM SERVICES AND FACILITIES IN QUITO

UPDATE: THE INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE IS UPDATED TO OCTOBER 13, 2019 – 16:00

The Metropolitan Public Company of Touristic Destination Management, Quito Tourism, given the update of Travel Alerts made on October 9, 2019 by diplomatic representations abroad accredited in our country, states that:

  • The travel alerts issued for the city of Quito, as touristic destination, respond to a normal and sovereign performance of the Diplomatic Missions in the face of the social and political situation our country is experiencing;
  • In order to protect the well-being and security of domestic and foreign tourists, the Quito Crisis Tourism Commission led by the Metropolitan Public Tourism Management Company, Quito Tourism, is active and in coordinates with the main representatives of tourism associations;
  • With the desire to respond, in a timely manner, adverse possible events affecting the sector, we have generated inter-institutional action protocols;
  • The current situation has not caused tourist victims in the Capital;
  • Through our official twitter page, @EPMQuitoTurismo, we send general travel recommendations for tourists. Thanks to the support of the Hotel Association of Ecuador (AHOTEC) and the Quito Metropolitan Hotels Association (HMQ) we have provided useful information to more than 2,500 tourists, directly to their rooms, with the support of near 30 tourist accommodation establishments. A strategy complemented by the information broadcasting to more than 40 diplomatic representations abroad;
  • Mobility restriction is temporarily lifted in the Metropolitan District of Quito, from 11:30 until 20:00 on Sunday, October 13;
  • Total traffic restriction is maintained in the following areas north of Quito: on the north, from Colón Avenue; on the west, from avenue 10 de Agosto; on the south, from Alameda, Luis Sodiro street; on the east, from avenues 12 de Octubre and Gran Colombia;
  • From 20:00 onwards, the mobility restriction will begin in the Metropolitan District of Quito and the surrounding valleys;
  • The roads to the airport are partially closed;
  • The provision of basic services has remained, and still does, with normaly;
  • For the safety of tourists, there has been a temporary suspension of Historic Center tours; however, other fascinating attractions await your visit;
